During term four, students refine set assets and character assets from narrative briefs. Students conceptualise and compose innovative exterior and interior sets, and innovative male and female characters for futuristic and fantasy stories. Students devise pragmatic specifications and aesthetic relationships from inspirational references. They then utilise construction methods and rendition techniques to produce detailed 2D illustrations and 3D visualisations. Students employ intermediate 2D construction methods in order to draw the shapes of forms, and intermediate 2D rendition techniques in order to shade the values of surfaces. They also implement intermediate 3D construction methods in order to model the topology of forms, and intermediate 3D rendition techniques in order to light the materials of surfaces..

During term one, students design environmental assets and figurative assets from descriptive briefs. Students conceptualise and compose familiar exterior and interior environments, and familiar male and female figures for modern and medieval worlds. Students derive pragmatic specifications and aesthetic relationships from observational references. They then utilise construction methods and rendition techniques to produce simplified 2D sketches and 3D blockouts. Students employ basic 2D construction methods in order to draw the shapes of forms, and basic 2D rendition techniques in order to shade the values of surfaces. They also implement basic 3D construction methods in order to model the topology of forms, and basic 3D rendition techniques in order to light the materials of surfaces.

For years we tried to reconcile our commercial courses with the national units in order to deliver accredited training. However, the national units relate to general roles and tangential tasks, and therefore, insufficiently address the skills of commercial artists. So, in 2022, we partnered with the Australian Production Design Guild and ten of Sydney’s top animation studios, in order to develop our own original qualifications from scratch. At the beginning of 2026, the government approved our qualifications for accreditation within the VET sector. Their endorsement represents an important milestone within creative education.
